Market Love: For the Love of Food, Vintage, Creativity, and Bargains

I’ve always been a fan of the show Flea Market Flip. More than the thrill of a good bargain, I always fancy how they turn things around: old to new, useless to purposeful, trash to treasure, ugly to beautiful, rusty to sassy.

Imagine my simple joy when I came here to London and realized there are plenty of flea markets to goggle my eyes with. When I shared a photo of it with my sister who, like me, is also interested in these, she was also amazed saying it’s a “legit” flea market. Back in the Philippines, we have bazaars and she was my partner-in-crime when we traded a few times.

My UK Application Timeline and Expenses

Edited October 2019:

Before proceeding, you might want to check this link on the NMC website for recent updates since there was a number of changes in the application process, examination guidelines (OSCE) and exam fees. I’ll write a new post about it (maybe). But if you just want to have an overall idea about my application process which started two years ago, then read on.

3 Asian Countries, 28 Days, and a P48K Budget All-In

It had been a year since this backpacking trip that was very special for me. It had been a year since I wrote a three-part post about the trip, one for each country. I was supposed to write a fourth part but never wrote it. My sister hasn’t finished our travel video yet.

But anyway, I decided to write a 3-part post again. This post, as the first of the three, will be a summary of our itinerary for three countries. Click the respective links to read details of my adventures in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

A Private Viewing of Unli Life at Cinematheque Iloilo

I’ve been following Cinematheque Iloilo’s Facebook page for quite a while now and my sister’s been tagging me in their movie schedule posts but it’s only last Friday that I was able to try watching there. Due to a busy schedule and, real reason, expensive movie tickets in malls, I wasn’t able to watch movies from Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. 6 Non-Hospital Gigs I’ve Tried With My Nursing Degree

A medical course is a dead-end course.

A stranger I met once  told me this. He said that being a nurse like me or a doctor like his father, having a medical degree means you’ll just end up in a hospital with not much flexibility to branch in other areas. Somehow, he did eat up his own words when he told me his father was more of a businessman now (probably didn’t really realize it until then) and about a doctor colleague when he did his military training who taught him how to do an emergency chest decompression  in the field.

There are more opportunities for nurses that we didn’t realize until we resigned.

A chat with a friend led us to this realization. We both started and ended at about the same time in the hospital we worked at after serving for about four years. Post-resignation, we’ve worked on a couple of part time jobs, most of which are related to nursing. Huge income aside, we found sidelines wherein we still used our knowledge and practiced our skills as nurses. Continue reading “6 Non-Hospital Gigs I’ve Tried With My Nursing Degree”

Respark Challenge 2018: Reflections and Learnings

Monologue to self: You created this blog to share thoughts on productivity but a year had gone now, you only had one productivity post. You’re indeed lazy.

Respark Challenge 2018 is a short mini course by Arriane Serafico of The Purposeful Creative. It’s a 5-day challenge wherein the participants called “resparkers” follow an everyday prompt, simple things that can be done for about 15 minutes or less to avoid excuses of being busy or having no time to do it.
